Travel Program

Introduction: Discovering the history of the Tuscan Maremma, from the Etruscans, with the important archaeological sites of Populonia and Roselle, up to the medieval period, which is characterised by countless villages that stand out on the hills, where Massa Marittima, the "Gem of the Middle Ages" is the most notable.

How the journey is structured...

Day 1
Guests’ arrival at the accommodation lodge by 2.30 pm. Transfer by private vehicle to Populonia, where we will meet our guide and be able to visit the acropolis, with the temples, buildings, mosaics and streets of the Roman era, and the remains of the huts of the first Etruscan settlement and the walls that surrounded the city on the seaside. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2
Breakfast. Depart by private vehicle to Roselle, meeting with the guide and visiting the Etruscan necropolis. “The ancient city of Roselle stood on an elliptical-shaped hill comprising two summits, separated by a valley in the middle, which was the heart of the political and religious life of the community throughout the ages. Although there are traces of attendance during Prehistory and Protohistory, Roselle was urbanised by the Etruscans in the 7th century BC. The choice of this area for an organised settlement was not by accident. In fact, the elevated position provided a natural opportunity for the place to be defended and the control of what is now the plain of Grosseto, occupied by Lake Prile in the past, which was a large lagoon communicating with the sea. Lunch at the farmhouse and then carrying on to Argentario, with a visit to Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole. Return to the accommodation place. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3
Breakfast. Set off to Massa Marittima for a tour of the city with particular focus on medieval history. Tasting lunch with traditional local products. Return in the early afternoon. End of services.
