Travel Program

Introduction: A journey to discover the long-standing industrial tradition of the Tuscan Maremma. A journey back in time, from the contemporary era characterised by the steel industry to the most remote times characterised by a long mining tradition. Unique and exciting experiences.

How the experience is structured...

Day 1
Guests’s arrival in Follonica by 2.00 pm and check in. The itinerary will begin with a visit to the Magma Museum in Follonica. Housed in the restored spaces of the Forno San Ferdinando, the oldest building in the city, the Museum represents “a magic box that tells a story of ingenuity, art and passion: that of the Italian steel industry. Al MAGMA, secular walls and precious artifacts, alongside the most advanced multimedia technologies, accompany both young and old visitors on a virtual journey to discover an extraordinary time in industrial archeology". Dinner in the restaurant/hotel and overnight stay.
Day 2
Breakfast. Set off to Massa Marittima, known as the "Gem of the Middle Ages". In Massa Marittima, as well as discovering the medieval architectural sights of the city, we will immerse ourselves in an exciting visit to the Mine Museum, a journey where the visitor can relive the hard life of miners and learn about the news and anecdotes that have characterised the area of the Metalliferous Hills. Lunch with the "Miner's Panierina". We continue towards Montieri, also a medieval village, which back then was a mining village in support of the mines located in the neighbouring areas. Return in the evening to the accommodation, dinner in the restaurant/hotel and overnight stay.
Day 3
Breakfast. Set off to Rocca di Montemassi, an important wine estate, near Ribolla, which is another small mining village, where we will visit the monument dedicated to the miners involved in a tragic mine explosion, which deeply affected the entire territory. Visit to the Wine Cellar and the Estate with tasting, accompanied by a dish of local and seasonal products. Return to the accommodation. End of services.
