Prato, a surprising town – Group Tour

A visit to Santo Stefano Cathedral, with the wonderful pulpit by Donatello standing out on its facade, will reveal a secret path that is still little known. Enjoy a special Mortadella di Prato and Cantucci del Mattei tasting.

How the itinerary is structured...

At 09.30 meeting point with the guide in front of the Cathedral. Visit to the most important monuments of Prato. By entering the Duomo, you will appreciate the frescos by Filippo Lippi, and the ancient frescos by Agnolo Gaddi in the Sacred Belt Chappel. Discover the Secret Cathedral, starting from the Holy Belt Chapel. Crossing a narrow passage between the two facades that leads to the Pulpit by Donatello and up to the Clock (min 6 max 15 participants). After visiting the Duomo, a walking tour around the city centre starts. Piazza del Comune is the heart of the city centre. Here stands Palazzo Comunale (City Hall) and the medieval Palazzo Pretorio. Enjoy Mortadella di Prato tasting: typical Tuscan cold cuts made of a mixture of pork, garlic, sea salt and alchermes. You will also enjoy a Carmignano wine tasting. Lunch is not included. In the afternoon you will enjoy the external visit of the Emperor’s Castle, owned by Frederick I of Swebia. Close to the Castle you will visit Santa Maria delle Carceri Church (external). Built for Lorenzo de Medici, designed by his favourite architect, Giuliano da Sangallo. At the end of the tour stop at the Antonio Mattei’s shop, the ancient biscuit factory where the popular biscuit “Cantucci” is produced. End of the tour.
