Historical-artistic visit of the city at the time of the Middle Ages. Arrival in Siena, meeting of the participants with the guide and beginning of the tour of the city of Siena as a free Municipality in the period of medieval splendor; historical artistic path inside the Town Hall to visit the monumental cycle of profane themed frescoes such as the Good and the Bad Government by Ambrogio Lorenzetti and the Majesty by Simone Martini which occupies the entire north wall of the Sala del Mappamondo. The visit is completed with the entrance to the museum complex of Santa Maria della Scala which through the maze of its tunnels allows you to learn about the history of the city. Siena and the artists of medieval painting. Breakfast. Exciting experience alongside a Sienese artist to learn the 14th century painting techniques! With the tools used in the Middle Ages, participants will create a personal painting, made on a tablet, working with materials such as plaster, rabbit glue, Armenian clay, pure gold and egg tempera. Participants will be able to make the object at home. Dinner in a restaurant in the historic center. Overnight.
The decoration of an ancient manuscript. Breakfast. Day dedicated to the fascinating world of painting and lighting of a medieval miniature. You will learn calligraphy, painting techniques, color mixing and the application of gold leaf to create your own decorated medieval manuscript. Starting from the works of the Piccolomini Library of the Siena Cathedral, analysis and description of the illuminated manuscripts, explanation of the technique used and knowledge of the various materials and tools used (gilders' plaster, rabbit glue, Armenian red bole, pure gold and tempera painting ). Participants will make their work on parchment paper of a letter inspired by medieval illuminated manuscripts. At the end of the workshop it is possible to take the created object home.
